The seemingly innocent concept as a forbidden friendship between two young girls of different races escalates to a heavy story with a few dark twists, but also very emotional and heartwarming. Excelent writing, beautiful art and soundtrack, multiple choices and endings combine into an unforgettable experience.. I wishwishwish there was a 'neutral' or 'darned if I know quite what I think of it' option, because I was back and forth on this one the whole time I was playing it. You follow two protagonists--Tayo, a human girl, and Bimonia, the possibly last of a winged humanoid species--as they grow up and attempt to overcome the hatred between their two species. The writing is clunky and erratic in tone, many events clumsily dark, the character development uneven, and the worldbuilding and internal logic have holes you could drive a Star Destroyer through. But there's still something to the premise and story, and two of the five endings actually worked for me. This is one of those stories that could have been very good, but instead is frustrating and baffling. (Also, SO MANY TRIGGER WARNINGS. Don't play if you have common triggers.). German further down...InvertMouse is celebrating 5 years existence with her best title. Wounderful Artwork, nice music and a tragic story about a forbidden friendship. It reminded me sometimes of Disneys "The Fox and the Hound". Seems like some aspects were inspired from it.Pro:- Cute Artdesign- Over 5 hour content- Ending requirements IN GAME and it keeps track of your choices. I want that more often in other VNs- No blind choices- Glossar included- Ear Animation of the Birdings (So cute ^_^)Contra:- No VoicesPS: NO Yuri includes, just friendship_____________________________________________Invertmouse feiert 5 Jahre mit ihrem bislang besten Titel. The Last Birdling is one of the most fantastic VN's I've read. Every character is packed with personality, and throughout the story it's a treat to see how everyone changes (or doesn't change). And even though it's only a few hours to reach an ending, it feels so much longer than that. Props to InvertMouse for telling such a moving tale.. For all the beautiful art, music, and story this vn has to offer, I can not in good conscience recommend it. While the final reveal is certainly shocking, and explains the big question on all the characters minds, it plays into tropes you may find all to familiar in LGBT circles, bad ones, ones we all need to strive to leave out of our stories. Came super close to having amazing commentary on psychological trauma but fails to say naything meaningful. Or, to state it more clearly, the story is needlesly gritty, goes above and beyond to break it's characters, every ending is a downer, and the one ending where the girls live and escape falls super flat.Edit: And, in retrospect, it's quite ironic that a story that goes out of it's way to point out that TWO birdlings could barely survive off one hunting ground, completely ignores the fact that an ecosystem can't be susttained where an apex predator can only feed on another apex predator. One birdling would consume a single village faster than they could reproduce, let alone a whole species.. I hardly write reviews but this game really needs some promotion and can't go left unsaid. The story starts sweet as they are young and exploring but soon throws you into choices that leave you thinking. I won't go into further detail as you should go in as blind as possible. The different endings depending on your choice are nicely fleshed out, worth to go through them. Certainly some of them threw a curveball, which was a pleasant surprise. My first playthrough was about 6 hours long, I think I'm a medium speed reader, and I finished the other endings in another 2 hours. You can skip the text automatically if you've already are familiar with the lines and it will stop whenever you stumble upon unread lines. Also the skip speed is really nice.Even if this Visual Novel isn't voiced the music is very ambient and amazingly fitting to every scene. What I found a nice little touch that whenever a part played out in the rain it would have rain sound for a few second and then it would diminish, which didn't leave you with constant repeating rain noise in the background. It was enough to get my attention to "hey, rain" and then not bother me anymore through repeat. It's appreciated they made the effort in little noises to create more immersion.I would highly recommend this Visual Novel to friends. Maybe not to people who are starting out with Visual Novels as it deals with heavy themes and absolutely don't sugar coat them. (Which I highly appreciate, too little VNs of this caliber story.) Absolutely worth my money I enjoyed playing through it.. I cried. A lot.
